The ART of dementia care

This is a weekly carer group, providing carers the opportunity to chat with other carers and share experiences, something incredibly important for psychological wellbeing. Carers can gain peer support and develop friendships.

Alongside we run an art class for people living with dementia. Research has shown art has positive effects on emotional wellbeing for people living with a dementia. In a study conducted by Dr Kellyn Lee she found that regardless of a person's ability to paint or draw most people experienced emotions such as joy and pride, they also developed friendships with other members of the group. Findings showed the positive emotions lasted longer than the group with care partners telling stating the positive mood lasted after the group.
