I’ve lived in The New Forest for 20 years and volunteered many times for different activities. I was interested in working for the Dementia Care Hub, because during my university years and also when my children were babies I worked in a number of nursing and rest homes as a health care assistant, and I feel my experience will be useful to the members and carers using the Care Hub. I’m an art graduate, and I look forward to using my skills to inspire the members to be creative in a variety of ways. I have a wide range of interests and I enjoy hearing about others lives and interests.
I love spending time with people and listening to their stories. I work as a freelance heritage consultant, and have trained in oral history and reminiscence. With family experience of dementia, I am passionate about the wellbeing of those living with a dementia and their carers.
In my spare time I volunteer with a WW2 veteran's group, enjoy walking in the forest and photography. I live locally with my husband and two teenage children.

I went to a Catholic grammar school in London, After having my children I was happy to stay at home and care for them, working part time when my husband was not working as a shift worker. I returned to education later achieving a degree in English/Psychology. I also did various counselling courses during this time. I became a Social Worker and worked in the discharge team at SGH, then on to Romsey Older Persons Team and finally to The Innovations Team as a Senior Practitioner.
When my mum became ill I reduced my hours and began looking after an elderly lady with Alzheimer’s Disease. I love arts and crafts, and enjoy making cards, decorating gin and wine bottles, decoupage, and painting furniture. I also enjoy dog walking, pilates, looking after my gorgeous grandchildren and family time with my son and other family members.
Being in a customer facing role for most of my working life (30 years in Totton) has given me skills of empathy & understanding of many different & diverse vulnerabilities, having known so many of the customers for so long. I was then personally thrown into the world of dementia with both mum & dad suffering from different forms at the same time with little or no support for us as a family! I now just have dad with Alzheimers, but seeing him come alive in these groups has been so fulfilling & rewarding & it is so evident that at the heart of every single one of those who attend is a wonderful human being still with a zest for life, fun, understanding & optimism. It’s a privilege to be part of this & to be able to help in any small way I can!
