With 25 years of experience in the field of mental health I have worked as a mental health nurse both within the community supporting individuals living with dementia and their families as well as supporting individuals of Adult age also living with a mental illness diagnosis. However for the most part of my career I have worked within a high secure forensic hospital managing some of the countries most dangerous individuals suffering with a severe and enduring mental illness often facing extremely challenging behaviour.
My varying roles within this field has allowed me the honour of being able to support these people and their families to navigate often very stormy waters on the often complex and frustrating journeys. Throughout my career my Role as a psychiatric nurse has allowed me to ensure that I can deliver person centred care with tailored support advice & tips on how to achieve an often very difficult carer ,life, work , balance thus enabling all involved to be including in all care planning and implementation of a clear care pathway.

I live on the Waterside with my Husband, 2 teenage Daughters and our 4yr old Son. Pre covid I spent a number of years working as a dementia care trainer in hospitals and care homes across the country, I also volunteered with the Alzheimer's Society. Having experienced caring for someone in the family with Dementia over the past few years, I'm now passionate about supporting people living with Dementia locally. I'm a key member of our local PTA and I have a wide range of hobbies from growing all our fruit and veg to sea swimming and running through the forest with our dog, Willow. I enjoy getting to know people and listening to their stories.

I went to a Catholic grammar school in London, After having my children I was happy to stay at home and care for them, working part time when my husband was not working as a shift worker. I returned to education later achieving a degree in English/Psychology. I also did various counselling courses during this time. I became a Social Worker and worked in the discharge team at SGH, then on to Romsey Older Persons Team and finally to The Innovations Team as a Senior Practitioner.
When my mum became ill I reduced my hours and began looking after an elderly lady with Alzheimer’s Disease. I love arts and crafts, and enjoy making cards, decorating gin and wine bottles, decoupage, and painting furniture. I also enjoy dog walking, pilates, looking after my gorgeous grandchildren and family time with my son and other family members.

Being in a customer facing role for most of my working life (30 years in Totton) has given me skills of empathy & understanding of many different & diverse vulnerabilities, having known so many of the customers for so long. I was then personally thrown into the world of dementia with both mum & dad suffering from different forms at the same time with little or no support for us as a family! I now just have dad with Alzheimers, but seeing him come alive in these groups has been so fulfilling & rewarding & it is so evident that at the heart of every single one of those who attend is a wonderful human being still with a zest for life, fun, understanding & optimism. It’s a privilege to be part of this & to be able to help in any small way I can!
